Fundamentals of Leases and Title Ownerships
Learn the basics about land descriptions including platting and acreage calculations, estates in land, types of property ownership and how to read and understand oil and gas lease provisions for extracting important data from them. Concepts of full-interest and partial-interest leases are covered in depth, as well as overlapping acres and basic lease record tracting. Participants will learn what pieces of data must be updated when a non-producing lease becomes producing, and will learn the basic elements of the four most common contracts affecting the lease: JOA, assignment, farmout and unit agreement/designation of unit. Participants will leave the workshop having completely analyzed a non-producing, paid up lease and entered all required information into a lease data entry form. This is a two-day workshop.
Advanced Leases and Title Ownerships
Recommended only for those with at least 2 years land administration experience or who have attended the workshop “Fundamentals of Leases and Title Ownerships.” Learn analytical differences between fee, state and federal oil and gas leases; surface, easement and right-of-way leases; protection leases, top leases. Covers advanced land and leasehold ownerships and in-depth discussions and analytical skills for processing contracts and conveyances. Also includes advanced legal description issues, effective methods of tracting both surface and depths for accurate company records and concept of cross-referencing. Teaches advanced analytical skills and issues involving lease payments and obligations, including title issues regarding horizontal units. Issues for all shale-play states discussed. Participants will leave the workshop having analyzed various contracts including a 1989 AAPL Operating Agreement, and updated various lease records based on leasehold and production changes, including breaking the original legal description into tracts by depths classified as producing, held by production and remaining acreage still held in non-producing status. This is a two-day workshop.
